One common use of sessions is to allow registered users of your site to log in to the site in order to access their account and carry out actions. For example, customers of your online store could log in so that they could check their order history; similarly, users of a Web-based email system need to log in to the system to check their email. In addition, once the users have finished using the system, they need to log out. Sessions are a relatively secure way to build login systems because the only piece of information stored in the browser is the hard-to-guess session ID. Although the login username and password need to be sent from the browser when the user logs in, this only occurs during the login process. For every other request, only the session ID is sent by the browser. The following script allows the user to log in with a predefined username ( john ) and password ( secret ). It then displays a welcome message, along with the option to logout. Save it as login.php, then run the script in your Web browser. At the login page (Figure 10-4), log in with the username and password to view the welcome message (Figure 10-5), then log out to return to the login form.

The base parser class is xml.sax.xmlreader.XMLReader. It is normally not necessary to instantiate parser objects directly. However, you can access a parser to exercise tighter control on XML parsing. The method xml.sax.make_parser([parserlist]) creates and returns an XML parser. If you want to use a specific SAX parser (such as Expat), pass the name of its module in the parserlist sequence. The module in question must define a create_parser function. Once you have an XML parser, you can call its method parse(source), where source is a filelike object, a URL, or a file name. An XML parser has properties and features, which can be set and queried by name. For example, the following lines check and toggle namespace mode for a parser:

7.3.1.1 Full-Duplex Operation TCP usually operates full duplex. Only during connection start and close sequences can TCP exhibit asymmetric behavior i.e., data transfer in the forward direction but not in the reverse, or vice versa.. A TCP session can be regarded as two independent byte streams, traveling in opposite directions. No TCP mechanism exists to associate data in the forward and reverse byte streams. The algorithms described here operate independently in both directions. 7.3.1.2 Acknowledgment and Sequence Numbers The acknowledgment mechanism is at the kernel of TCP. Basically, when data arrive at the receiver, the protocol requires that it send back an acknowledgment. TCP uses a 32-bit sequence number that counts bytes in the data stream, as shown in Figure 7.27. The protocol specifies that the bytes of data are sequentially numbered, so that the receiver can acknowledge data by identifying the first byte of data that it has not yet received, which also acknowledges the previous bytes. Forward and reverse sequence numbers are completely independent. Each TCP peer must track both its own sequence numbering and the numbering being used by the remote peer.
