Before leaving the topic of form handling in PHP, it s worth mentioning the concept of URL redirection. Though not directly related to forms, URL redirection is often used within form handling code. Normally when you run a PHP script whether by typing its URL, following a link, or submitting a form the script does its thing, displays some sort of response as a Web page, and exits. However, by sending a special HTTP header back to the browser from the PHP script, you can cause the browser to jump to a new URL after the script has run. This is commonly used within a form handler script to redirect the users to a thank-you page after they ve submitted the form. This means that you can keep your thank-you page separate from your PHP script, which makes the page easier to edit and update. Another good thing about redirecting to a new URL after a form has been submitted is that it prevents users from accidentally resubmitting the form by clicking their browser s Reload or Refresh button. Instead, all that happens is that they reload the page that they were redirected to. Redirection is as simple as outputting a Location: HTTP header, including the URL you want to redirect to. You output HTTP headers in PHP using the built-in header() function. So here s how to redirect to a page called thanks.html:

Theoretically, working with home videos on Windows Media Center Edition is as easy as attaching an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) cable from your camera to your HTPC. But if your camera doesn t support FireWire, you ll have to acquire an analog capture card and hope you ve got a remaining slot free to make the connection work. On the other hand, if your HTPC doesn t support FireWire (and some of the motherboards we checked out for this book didn t, nor do all of the cases include front-panel FireWire access highly desirable for camcorder hook-ups), you may also want to acquire a FireWire/IEEE 1394 PCI or PCI-E X1 expansion card. But once the physical hook-up is accomplished, it s really not that bad. Once movies hit the MCE desktop, Windows Movie Maker becomes your (free) tool of choice for editing and managing home video content. There s a whole world of information emerging around Windows Movie Maker (as we write this, the most current version available is 2.1). You ll find pointers to downloads, documentation, and discussions in Table G-1, as well to tools you can use to turn Microsoft Movie Maker home movies into DVDs. Because there are so many home video resources available online, Table G-1 is shorter than it probably should be, and includes sites that we ve found particularly useful in dealing with our own PC home video situations and learning requirements. Therefore, we re especially open to your suggestions and ideas on other items that could or should be added to this category. For brevity, we also abbreviate Windows Movie Maker as WMM in the name column in Table G-1.

You grab the connection from the XSQLPageRequest object. You don t have to do this in the init method, but it is a convenient place to do it. The connection will be null if there is no connection specified in the XSQL page. When you go to use the connection, you need to check to see it is null and generate an appropriate error message if it is.

After you nish building a complete semantic object model, you should check each of the views to ensure that they contain all of the information needed for each class of user and nothing else. For example, you should run through all of the use cases for managers and see if the EMPLOYEE class s MANAGER_VIEW provides enough information to handle those use cases. You should also check that every piece of data included in the MANAGER_VIEW is actually used. If something isn t used in some use case, then managers might not need it and it might not belong in the MANAGER_VIEW.
